Our day out unit 9

Our Day Out

Who is the playwright?
Willy Russel

where is the play set?
Kent/Sussex England

What is the play about?

The play is about a bunch of students going to a school trip to Sussex and Kent. There are some children aged 13 to 16 that smoke and be silly while on the coach. As everyone stops, they all decide to go at the café, the zoo, the beach and the funfair, the children take the opportunities to bike, fool around, steal and get lost. At the end of the story everyone had a good time.

what is the theme of the play?
The theme is about education, money and romance

Give me an idea of what it was really about i.e. the theme.
This is based on a trip which includes educating younger people and give them an opportunity to explore different places they have never been.

what did you think about the play?

I think that this play was amazing, whats even better is that these are related to mostly the younger generation which makes me understand more of whats going on.

Did you like the characterisation?
I loved every characters role and how they were playing it, i find it very intresting.

What kind of genre did it fall into? Maybe simply drama or drama/comedy or drama/documentary?
This is a drama/comedy type of play

How were the people, places, events represented aurally?
The place was original from Liverpool but we changed it to London since we don't have the Liverpool accent. Also we had to change the places to Kent and Sussex which are in London.

What did you like about the writing, performance, story?
The writing made perfect sense since teenagers speak English slang almost everyday. Also i loved the story it includes some comedy and some interesting bits and pieces that i really enjoyed

Anything about the character that you played or other interesting characters.

I originally had 2 characters to rehearse which was Marc and Andrews, they both were really amazing characters, they had some bits of lines in different scenes that i was well interested to read out, but since we wasn't going through all of the scenes but just half of it, we had to change roles, since Ashley wasn't in class for a while, i had to take her role and be Linda, i actually enjoyed being Linda, i personally feel like i am improving my reading a lot and memorising my characters lines which makes me want to take a step further to L3 to accomplish new challenges and learn many new things.

What message does this play give?

This play mentions how even though you don't have enough money for certain things, doesn't mean you should give up for your hopes and dreams.

What you have learnt in terms of acting skills this year and how they have helped during this process. Maybe you have brought these to this project?

I personally feel like this year has been a big step forward to improving and i believe that i have improved by numerous of things while doing this course,  i have improved my confidence, meeting new people, not mostly being shy, taking part on new things, reading more better and memorising has improved. So iv'e decided that i love this course so much that i have decided to take a step further to L3 to accomplish new challenges and learn many new things.
